Students Explore Post Secondary Career Options

Romulus High School students attended the first annual Construction Academy at Eastern Market on October 18th. Sachse Construction and Junior Achievement teamed up to encourage students to explore careers in construction trades. The one-day event featured training and demonstrations from subcontractors across the state. Students were exposed to different careers and were able to interact with professionals. This unique learning experience allowed students to gain a hands-on approach, which included anything from fiber optics to masonry. Margaret Trimer-Hartley president of Junior Achievement spoke to students about the need for a younger skilled trade workforce. “The average age of the construction workforce is 55 years old. There will be many opportunities for high school graduates to enter the skilled trades ” said Trimer-Hartley. Junior Achievement has been a strong partner of Romulus Community Schools providing programs that focus on financial responsibility, workforce readiness and entrepreneurial thinking.
