Students visit Washington DC and Gettysburg

The 8th grade social studies department led by veteran teachers Mr. McCabe, Mrs. Marshall and Mrs. Teefey, accompany students to our nations capitol and the Civil War battlefield. The trip begins with a stop at Romulus Cemetery where students visit the resting place of men from Romulus who served in the Civil War. Throughout the trip students learn about and view historic documents including the Constitution and Bill of Rights. They were able to witness a live senate hearing in addition to seeing the first female Sargent conduct the Changing of the Guards Ceremony at Arlington National Cemetery. While in DC students have the opportunity to see many of the monuments located on the National Mall including the Lincoln Memorial and the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall. The trip concludes in Gettysburg where students take a guided tour of the Civil War Battlefield, where they gain insight about the 24th Michigan, a regiment from Wayne County that fought for the Union in the war.
