On Friday, October 7, 2016 Wick Elementary hosted “Dinner with Dads” in an effort to get fathers and father-figures to participate in the school’s Watch DOGS (Dads Of Great Students) program. The Watch DOGS program is a school-based, father involvement initiative that works to support education and safety in the school. Watch DOGS include fathers, grandfathers, step-fathers, uncles, and other father figures who volunteer to serve at least one day per school year in a variety of school day activities. A typical day for a Wick Watch DOG includes time in several classrooms, practicing essential motor skills with small groups, helping out during lunch / recess periods, and serving as an extra set of eyes and ears in the hallways. In addition to pizza and learning about the program, fathers in attendance were eligible to win pairs of tickets to that night’s Romulus High School Varsity Football game – which were donated by the Athletic Department.
