Science Olympiad Team

Romulus Community Schools 5th and 6th grade  students enrolled in the Accelerated Curriculum & Enrichment Program, known as the ACE Program, participated for the first time in the Wayne-Oakland County Science Olympiad. The Wayne-Oakland Science Olympiad is an organization, dedicated to expanding the science curriculum beyond the classroom, creating a technologically-literate workforce and providing recognition for outstanding achievement by students.  Science Olympiad is a team competition that requires knowledge of various science topics and engineering skills.

Students Perform Shakespeare

The Barth Shakespeareans from Mr. Gibb-Randall’s 4th and 5th grade ACE program acted out their second performance of the year. Last fall they presented “Twelfth Night”. The class returned in early April to perform the comedy As You Like It, which has the famous line, "All the worlds a stage.”  Every student had a speaking part and the play’s theme compares life to a stage by using imagery and symbolism.

National Geographic and Popular Science Author Visits

Science Fiction author and photojournalist Tom Clynes attended a special luncheon with students at Bath Elementary. The students in Mr. Gibb-Randall's 4th and 5th Grade ACE program earned the special lunch with Clynes by going above and beyond in the classroom. They completed extra work in Science, Reading and Writing in order to be selected. Tom Clynes is most recently recognized for his science fiction novel “The Boy Who Played With Fusion”.

  1. What are the criteria for a student to be a candidate for the ACE Program?
    • Score an average in the 80 percentile or higher on the reading and math NWEA assessment
    • Grades consisting of As and Bs (1s and 2s) in the four content areas of Language Arts, Math, Science, and Social Studies
    • Teacher Checklist of Student Learning forms completed
    • Parent Nomination forms completed

Accelerated Curriculum & Enrichment Program

The Romulus Community Schools’ ACE Program provides opportunities for students to excel to their fullest potential. The program services students in grades 3rd-8th and is designed for highly motivated and academic excelling students. There is a high level of academic work and the instructional pace is more rapid than in general education classes. The Accelerated Curriculum and Enrichment Program has the acceleration of curriculum through more project-based learning, field trips, and differentiated learning through multiple means of learning modalities.
