Field Trip to the Detroit Parade Company

Parade Group

Students from Eastern Michigan University’s Bright Futures program at Romulus Middle School recently toured the Detroit Parade Company facilities in Detroit. Students were able to see the floats up close and personal, including some brand-new ones that will be revealed in the upcoming Thanksgiving Day Parade. As a follow up to the visit, the Parade Company has worked extensively with Eastern Michigan University’s College of Education to design lessons and classroom extensions that align with the Michigan Department of Education’s Core Curriculum framework.

EMU Bright Futures Camping Trip

Over the summer, Eastern Michigan University Bright Futures took a group of Romulus High School students camping at Waterloo Recreation Area in Chelsea, MI.  Students were immersed in the wilderness for three days and three nights. During this trip, participants had the opportunity to go swimming, row boating and hiking.  “For many of our students this was their first time camping, and I believe that exposing them to nature is important to their overall development”, said Lauren Richardson EMU Bright Futures Site Coordinator for Romulus High School.
