Kindergarten Students Learn the Science Behind Gardening

Thanks to a donation from the Boys & Girls Club Ms. Evitts’ Kindergarten Students at Wick Elementary are learning how to garden. Her class is using the Tower Garden, a high tech aeroponic growing system that is capable of growing up to 20 herbs, vegetables, fruits and flowers simultaneously. The Tower Garden grows plants with only water and nutrients rather than dirt. Students in Ms. Evitts class are assigned weekly responsibilities that include checking water and pH levels, and adding nutrients.

Spelling Bee

Wick Elementary recently held its annual Spelling Bee for students in Grades 3, 4, and 5. The top 3 spellers in each grade move on to the District Spelling Bee which will be held at Romulus High School on Wednesday, June 1.

Reading Month with RHS Basketball Team

Members of the Romulus High School Boys Basketball Team recently read to students at Wick Elementary in recognition of March as Reading Month. The high school student athletes volunteered their time to share stories with students in each class at Wick, including fables and tales that shared messages of cooperating with one another and working together to accomplish a common goal. Pictured with members of the team are (far left) Coach Jarret Smith and (far right) Wick Principal ShaVonna Johnson.

Hoops For Heart

Get ready to save lives!  We kicked off our Hoops For Heart program in P.E this week and our school's event is right around the corner on March 14th & 15th! This is a fun and exciting event for our entire school as we work together to raise money for the American Heart Association and save lives!

Your students will be telling you about the Lifesaver puppies, so we wanted to fill you in! Each puppy teaches the kids a new way to protect their heart and avoid risk factors for heart disease and stroke. Your student can earn all 6!

Makeover Project

Painting Project

Volunteers from Wick Elementary and The Home Depot (Canton location – Michigan Ave) came out to help paint the school hallways on a recent Saturday. Wick, a “Leader In Me” School, is currently in the midst of physically transforming the building to highlight and assist in developing better leaders. Paint for the project was donated by the Behr Corporation in conjunction with The Home Depot. Pictured are some of the volunteers that came out for the day from the school as well as The Home Depot.

New WatchDOG Welcomed

Wick Elementary recently welcomed its newest WatchDOG, Mr. DeMaris Harvey, Sr. Wick is entering its fourth year in the nationally recognized WatchDOGS (Dads of Great Students) program.  In stepping up to the role of a WatchDOG at Wick, a father figure / male role model is able to assist with student arrival and dismissal, help out in the child’s classrooms, and enjoy lunch with their children as well. Each WatchDOG is only asked to volunteer one day during the school year, but may go above and beyond that as well.
