RMS Ok2Say

RMS Ok2Say

This week at RMS, 6th graders and select 7th graders (those who are new to our school this year) will be listening to our annual cyber safety program presentation called Ok2Say. The presentation is sponsored by the state of Michigan; we are fortunate to have Mr. Kevin Butts visit our school to share cyber safety tips, anti-bullying tips, and current internet laws with our students through an engaging presentation and videos.

FEMMES Night at RMS

Females Engaging in More Math Engineering and Science

The University of Michigan visited Romulus Middle School on December 4th to introduce students to careers in the Math and Science field and to also host activities for the students to engage. 18 girls in grades 6th -8th participated in the program. Students participated in four different activities which showed them how to make slime, build and test boats, learn about
light and matter and they also did a molecular relay.

RMS DSO Trip

Mrs. Forrest and Mr. Bower took 34 students to the Detroit Symphony Orchestra to see Igor Stravinsky’s
Tale of the Firebird. Students learned and listened to the Story of the Firebird as the concert was part of
an educational series offered to schools. The performance we attended also included a very special
guest, a professional ballerina. The storytelling and the movements of the ballerina brought the story to
life. The trip was a valuable experience for our middle school students.

Week 5 RMS Traveling Tuesday DIA

This week RMS students headed downtown Detroit to visit the DIA.  We had a wonderful tour guide lead us through various parts and explain the different works of art  and artifacts to us.  He was a great story teller and he was very engaging.  We also had some time to roam around and check out some exhibits on our own.  Some of the highlights included a real mummy, the Diego Rivera Mural, the Play Ball baseball exhibit, the European table setting, and the knight's apparel and swords.

RMS goes to the Detroit Symphony Orchestra

Around the World in 45 minutes was the title of the Educational Series that the DSO put on last week. Romulus Middle School and Mr. Pethoud were able to take 40 band members to the performance on March 8th. The performance gave what was promised. Students were able to listen and watch professional musicians play songs from China, North Africa, Russia, Hungary, France, England, and finish up in the United States. It was a great experience for everyone and especially those students who have never seen an orchestra play before in person.

Parent Night 2018

Parents and students learned next to one another last Tuesday Night at Romulus Middle School. Parents were taught some card games to play at home with their children to improve math skills for the first session courtesy of Mrs. Haidar. The second session took parents into the light with UV rays. Mrs. Covert and Mrs. Green had students and parents experimenting with UV flashlights and special beads to show the effect of Ultra Violet light. Parents and students learned how sunscreen, sunglasses, and simply being in the shade have an effect on UV light exposure.
